ViPR
ViPR is quite simply the most exciting training tool on the market today. It was developed to bridge the gap between functional integration training and strength training. But to suggest that’s the end to it would be like saying your personality is represented by your left thumb.
The name ViPR stands for Vitality, Performance, Reconditioning. This means it can be used to improve wellbeing, bring about impressive gains in fitness and also help individuals rehab or improve their overall ability to function. What you see in the video may look like ‘different’ forms of exercise, but the movements are incredibly beneficial for both the physical and mental performance of us as human beings. From a personal point of view, ViPR training has been the most fun and effective workout I’ve ever done!
The inventor Michol Dalcourt, and his colleagues at PTA Global have a saying: “the smarts are under the table”. Nothing could be more appropriate when you apply this to the ViPR. It’s a simple ‘low tech’ device, being made of rubber with a series of holding points. The clever part is that the movements performed work chains of muscle and fascia (connective tissue) in the way we, as human being, were designed to move. I’ll let Michol tell you more in his own words – check out the video.
So many traditional exercises break down movement into stunted unnatural patterns which leave us over time with aches, pains, postural problems and often lead to injuries. Plus, they can be just plain boring. ViPR and it’s 9000 documented movements challenge the body as an integrated mental, physical and emotional organism. Your body literally says thank you, by leaving you feeling energised, physically ‘satisfied’ and uplifted. Sensory information from all parts of your body will send signals to your brain indicating they have been fed with intelligent movements, not dumb isolated actions, and your feelgood hormones are released.
If you pair ViPR with the knowledge of hormone response training, you can actually target all the hormones which make you fitter, stronger and more likely to utilise bodyfat, whilst avoiding the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol is often released in high doses as a result of exercise stress and if not flushed will pool in fascia, meaning you can become ‘gluey’ and mobility and wellbeing can be affected. A ViPR trainer will not only get the best hormone response for you, but will also feed your body with information (ie movements) that it LOVES!
JP Active is the only master coach for ViPR in WA and runs individual and VGT (ViPR Group Training) sessions from their base in North Beach.
